Independent Project
| The Independent Project sets out to define, deliver and pilot the use of technology to support a more integrated approach to delivering of timely support to maintain the independence and quality of life of older people. | |
The premise of the project is that the potential of telehealth and telecare is not being fully realised due to the 'silo' organisation of health, care and support services. This fragmentation results in disjointed medical and social care and in turn has a negative impact on not only the service user but on the economic sustainability of welfare and healthcare systems.
Six pilot sites in six locations in Europe (Milton Keynes and Hull in the UK, Andalucía in Spain, Geldrop in the Netherlands, Dublin in Ireland and Trikala in Greece) will receive the newly integrated services, and the results from the evaluation of the pilot project will be used to extend service provision and promote the wider uptake of this model of care across Europe.
This project is funded 50% by the EU CIP programme and 50% by the participating organisations. It commenced in January 2010 and will conclude in December 2013.
